Emergency Room/Fast Track Clerkship: Brookdale Medical Center, Brooklyn, New York
Obtain medical history and perform and/or assist in initial physical exams. Obtain lab tests and routine diagnostic procedures. Assess patient’s condition and suggest a differential diagnosis, based on patient’s chart, results of tests, physical exam and other established medical policies and procedures. Suggest appropriate treatment of patient and assists in the management of the patient. Keep required medical records by recording notes on tests, findings and treatment ordered in patient’s charts and evaluates patients charts.Perform minor surgical procedures including routing suturing of lacerations, skin biopsies, incision and drainage of superficial abscess, removal of minor skin liaisons, applying and removing casts and traction apparatus.Counsel patients and their families with reference to preventative care, medical problems and the use of prescribed treatment and drugs.
