Emergency Room/Fast Track Clerkship: Brookdale Medical Center, Brooklyn, New York

Obtain medical history and perform and/or assist in initial physical exams. Obtain lab tests and routine diagnostic procedures. Assess patient’s condition and suggest a differential diagnosis, based on patient’s chart, results of tests, physical exam and other established medical policies and procedures. Suggest appropriate treatment of patient and assists in the management of the patient. Keep required medical records by recording notes on tests, findings and treatment ordered in patient’s charts and evaluates patients charts.Perform minor surgical procedures including routing suturing of lacerations, skin biopsies, incision and drainage of superficial abscess, removal of minor skin liaisons, applying and removing casts and traction apparatus.Counsel patients and their families with reference to preventative care, medical problems and the use of prescribed treatment and drugs. Assist in the management of medical and surgical emergencies; cardiopulmonary resuscitation, life threatening traumatic injuries, etc

Surgical Rotation: New York Presbyterian Queens, Queens, New York
Participate in daily morning and evening rounds. Assist in surgical service dressing changes, insertion and removal of drains, nasogastric rubes and foley catheters along with drawing venous and arterial punctures. Follow patients from admission to discharge and present on daily rounds as part of a team. Follow diagnostic tests and participate in therapeutic imaging procedures. Assist in consultations, drawing arterial and venous lab samples, and aiding the healthcare team with procedures such as PICC line insertion.
